CONFUSED IDENTITY – JONAH 1:1 - 10
Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; what is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou? (v.8 ASV)
Some people can be disappointing figures to GOD when it matters most, but I pray that you will be a figure of joy and gladness to the heart of GOD just like Jesus ever is. Amen!
Prophet Jonah, the son of Amittai, from Gath Hepher (2 Kings 14:25) cannot be rated a ‘small’ prophet in his days. He was known to hearing GOD well and every word he spoke according as he had received from the LORD came to pass. It was surprising to see this prophet cunningly running away from the presence of the LORD after he had clearly received GOD’S message for the people of Nineveh. You may and may not be a ‘prophet’, but GOD has a way of speaking clearly to you. How many times and in what ways have you cunningly run away from executing GOD’S words that HE gave you to share with others?
GOD created the heaven and the earth; can a man run from the presence of the LORD? Where do you think GOD’S presence does not cover so that it can be a place to hide? Please find it!
When one runs away from the presence of GOD, he/she will definitely be running down to the place of danger. There is no other safe place outside GOD’S presence. Do pray now that you do not lose GOD’S presence over you and in all you do.
When danger hit the people that Jonah was using as aid to run away, they needed to search out the cause of their trouble; but it is amazing that they could not easily identify Jonah as a prophet of GOD, neither could they see the sign of an Hebrew in him. I want to boldly ask if you have known Christ as your savior and if you are sure that Christ can boast of you as His? Have you lost your true identity as a child of GOD because of the people you have chosen to move with, or because you want to conform to the pattern in vogue (in dressing, music, foul language, name it)?
Why have you done this? Do take a quick turn to run back to the presence of GOD; HE is waiting to help and save you. Pray!
May you be saved from every evil as you journey on in life. I pray that GOD’S hand be good and mighty upon you. Amen!
